Free Speech for Telemarketers: Enforcement of the National "Do Not Call" List has been delayed due to a federal judge's ruling that it violates the free speech rights of telemarketers. Since when did "free speech" include the right for someone to contact me via a service I am paying for in my own home? That same line of thinking would support "junk" fax advertising and "spam" e-mail. I'd sure hate to violate a spammer's free speech rights. If this keeps up, expect a telemarketer call on your cell phone. After all, it's their right.

Are Oreo cookies still bad for you? Anti-"junk science" crusader, Steven Milloy, makes a good point about labeling some foods "bad" for you. Common sense tells you a diet heavy in Oreos will not be good for your health. But if you're following an overall healthy and balanced diet that includes Oreos, will you be hurt? Golly gee, you won't.

The Copyright Cops could charge you millions? As you may have heard, Big Music has started to sue 261 individuals who are "major offenders" for file sharing (and therefore breaking copyright laws). Targets of the lawsuits appear to have downloaded and shared 800 to 1,000 songs or more. At a potential of $150,000 per copyrighted work, that works out to as much as $150 million per defendant. Various articles cited settlements for $2,000 to $5,000. That's still more than most folks can easily spare, no?

Can't Sue Ronald: Sometimes it's not a bad thing when the corporate giants win one. I'm sorry but I just can't take the plaintiff's side this time. I stick by my opinion on fast food lawsuits from a previous cartoon.
