Farewell, Johnny Hart

And he died at the drawing board. Props go to Hart for never being afraid to say what he believed. As a cartoonist, I would have enjoyed the opportunity to meet him.

Tax Freedom Day is April 30

From the non-partisan watchdog, The Tax Foundation:

"Tax Freedom Day® will arrive on April 30 this year, the 120th day of 2007. That means Americans will work four months of the year, from January 1 to April 30, before they have earned enough money to pay this year's tax obligations at the federal, state and local levels.

Americans work a significant number of days each year to pay for things other than government, but nothing else is so expensive."

Get U.S. off the oil

An excellent column from former Democratic Congressman Martin Frost:
The U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs on March 22 held a half-day public hearing on “Foreign Policy and National Security Implications of Oil Dependence.” Given the challenges that our nation faces in the Middle East and our continued military presence in Iraq, few things could be more timely. The hearing was hardly noticed by the mainstream media.
Let's hope President Bush's words on this issue have actions and our current representatives have the guts to finally address this critical issue.
